T0618 - Building a CSS Template for JOOMLA

This series will help you get familiar with the routine and not so rountine processes of constructiong a CSS template. The series details the contruction of a two-column, fixed-width layout.

Skill Level: Intermediate/Advanced

The Building a CSS Template Series starts with a photoshop layout and ends with converting a CSS template into a JOOMLA readable template. By the completion of this series, you will have learned how to slice and make ready a photoshop layout for the web, construct the basic structure of an XHTML/CSS document, work through common brower bugs in CSS, and optimize the template for JOOMLA.

Two notes:
This series uses Dreamweaver, StyleMaster, and several plugins from various JOOMLA sites. You don't have to have any of these programs to use this tutorial as they give you an understanding on how to build a template in whichever program you would like to use.

This series also used an open source screen-capturing software to create the tutorials. Later on, the commercial software, "Camtasia" was discovered and delievered a much better recording quality. The rest of the tutorial series will be created using Camtasia; so if you are wondering why this series is a bit different than the others, that is why.

Lynda.com Joomla! 1.5 Essential Training (T0067)

Many types of websites can be built and maintained more easily using a content management system (CMS). A CMS provides a web-based interface for creating and organizing content. The content is stored in a database, then consistently presented according to a set of templates and preferences, which eliminates the need to handcraft each page in HTML. Joomla! is a popular, easy-to-use, open-source CMS built in PHP. It has near-limitless functionality, thanks to its community of extension developers.

CartoonSmart.com's Three Simple Web Design courses for Flash

CartoonSmart.com's Three Simple Web Design courses for Flash

CartoonSmart.com's Three Simple Web Design courses for Flash: Learn how to create a Flash drop down menu, Layout Your Site, and Create a Gallery. These are all very simple flash tutorials that can make a big impact in your design skillset. The video tutorials in total are 4 hours long.

All lessons are best used with Flash 8 because of the heavy use of Filters, but Flash 7 users will still get a lot out of these courses. All videos are recorded in high definition Quicktime Video, so you'll never have to squint your eyes to see the screen, or worry about the video suddenly getting pixelated. And all CartoonSmart.com tutorials work the same for Mac and PC.
